Capturing Memories: A Conversation with My Husband

Daily writing prompt
Interview someone — a friend, another blogger, your mother, the mailman — and write a post based on their responses.

Today, I interviewed my husband. I asked some of these questions to my students as ice breakers the first week of school. I didn’t let my hubby know why I was asking him these questions.

What is your favorite memory: My favorite memory was the trip we took to Washington DC and New York. It was fun taking the road trip to New York, granted this was a school DC trip, but we visited a lot of cool things like the Capital Building, the Vietnam Memorial and Lincoln Memorial. Another favorite memory was when my mom would take us to Redondo beach as kids. We’d go spend the day at King’s harbor.

If you could change one thing about your life what would it be? That I never dropped out of college when I was young. I went back, but I wish I finished the first time. I also wish that I started a business when he was young or that I went to medical school.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Europe because of the Politics in the US suck. Maybe Spain, Italy, or France. If it wasn’t for the politics it would be central California, but definitely along the coast. I can’t be without the ocean.

What’s your favorite movie? The Godfather or The Godfather Part 2. I need no further explanation.

What’s the most memorable book you read? The Great Gatsby or The Outsiders. I grew up in Anaheim Hills, so I could see a connection. There weren’t Greasers or Socs, but as a teen I think all kids could connect to one group or another. I’m glad it was the required reading. It’s more realistic/relatable than The Great Gatsby, but I love that one too.

What’s your favorite season? Spring, I love the beach and the temps are better than in the summer.

What’s the favorite place you traveled to? Kauai. Its incredibly beautiful. It’s peaceful and tropical.

Give me your three favorite rides at Disneyland in order starting with your favorite. Rise of The Resistance, Radiator Springs, Indiana Jones

Who is your favorite Disney character? Stitch is my favorite Disney character.

What is your favorite TV Show? There are so many, but I’d have to say, Magnum PI (from the 80’s, not the reboot) Miami Vice, and Alien Earth

If you could have one thing back from your childhood, what would it be? My BMX Bike. My mom’s old boyfriend Al took me and my brother on rides along the Santa Ana River trail. We’d ride all day. Have lunch and then ride home.

What is one thing no one knows about you? When I was nine, I ran away from home. We had just moved to Anaheim Hills from Downey and I wanted to go back to my old house. My other friend from Downey was with me. He had just moved to Anaheim too. We missed our old neighborhood, our old homes, but most of all we missed our friends. At least we had each other.

What do you want people to remember you for? That I was a nice guy and treated people with respect and that I’m caring.

What are some of your famous catch phrases? Whatcha Ma-Call-it? Dude, What’s up? How long have you been surfing big waves?

Well, that’s it about my husband.
